Music at FCC
First Christian Church has a distinguished music program that reaches back to the founding of the congregation in the 1870s. The excellent acoustics of our sanctuary, the light-filled stained glass and our beautiful tracker Létourneau mechanical-action organ create an inspiring space to worship our Creator each Sunday and throughout the week. ALL people of any ability who desire to improve their musical gifts are welcome to join the Music Ministry.
Chancel Choir - For ALL adults who desire to sing! There is no audition requirement. We rehearse on Thursdays from 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. in the Music Room (basement near the church offices) and sometimes in the Sanctuary. The choir sings most Sundays for worship. The repertoire is varied and includes works by classical masters, as well as spirituals, Psalm settings, and music from contemporary genres. We also present larger works for special occasions.
Handbell Choir - For youth and adult music readers. First Christian Church owns a 6-octave set of Schulmerich handbells, as well as a 6-octave set of Schulmerich handchimes. The handbell choir is currently rehearsing on Thursdays from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M. in the Music Room (basement near the church offices) and sometimes in the Sanctuary. This ensemble often plays during preludes, special music, and accompanies congregational singing. A music cornerstone of festive holidays and other special occasions, our ringers offer their musical gifts in service once a month, and are also dedicated to great music and fun fellowship.
