After nearly 33 years of service, our church organist, Carol Wilson is retiring May 31, 2022. So, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Colorado Springs is accepting applications for the position.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Organist, concert manager
Required Duties:
Provide a variety of music – both organ and piano, in a variety of styles, i.e., classical, hymn-based, spirituals, contemporary, et al – for Sunday morning worship services, other special services as requested, i.e., Maundy Thursday, Ash Wednesday, and special music programs. Accompany the choir, soloist, or special ensemble in worship. Assist music director as requested.
Attend bi-weekly staff meetings, weekly worship planning meetings. Be a team player, able to collaborate and communicate with others graciously. Show flexibility and willingness to go above and beyond expectations. Provide input and editing of the worship bulletin, the weekly e-mail newsletter and prayer message.
Maintain musical skills by practicing and performing, attending workshops or conferences, and maintain active membership in professional organizations.
Oversee the tuning and maintenance of the organ and pianos in the church.
Play for weddings and funerals (right of first refusal).
Additional Duties (depending on interest and abilities):
Manage requests for the use of the sanctuary/choir room/fellowship hall for programs/concerts by community musicians. Entails contact with requester, procuring information, assistance in finding an available date, sending forms to be filled out, submitting forms for approval, notifying the requester, calendaring the date/s, scheduling a rehearsal/s, assisting with setting up building access, meeting with party in person to acquaint them with building use procedures. Setting up dates for in-kind performance payment in worship if appropriate.
Manage the concert series – contact musicians/ensembles, calendar the events, schedule programs and rehearsals, arrange building access, send out publicity, produce programs, oversee performances. You are encouraged to give a solo organ and/or piano recital each year and participate as you wish in concert series programs as a soloist with an ensemble, as a participant in a chamber ensemble, or as an accompanist for a soloist/ensemble.
Manage the summer outdoor labyrinth series – same as above, arrange payment, enlist volunteers to help with set-up and tear-down.
Salary and benefits:
Salary: $25,000 - $35,000 per year for 25 hours per week commensurate with experience and education. Negotiable participation in our FSA, health insurance, and Pension Plan.
The organ is an Orgues Létourneau 3-manual mechanical action instrument, 34 stops/43 ranks, electric stop action and sequencer, which is a delight to play. The piano is a Yamaha 7-foot grand in good repair.
